BMG 9 May, 1984 has some strange things to say about a trip by Stewart Campbell and three friends on Anzac Day through Rainbow Ravine and Thunder Gorge. According to this article, they were attempting to canoe through the canyon (just getting a canoe into the canyon would be difficult) and the police had to strip naked to cross the river (never read that anywhere else, sounds like journalistic hyperbole). Campbell was suffering from “body soreness” and became delirious. He was unable to walk out of the gorge. I’ve read a few other articles that mention this “body soreness” and I wonder what it means? Turn to page 223 of the Second Edition to read the full story. I’d be inclined to say the whole story was made up but there’s a photo of him in hospital with hypothermia afterwards.
