The Gazette of 6 March 1991 reports that on Sunday 4 March 1991, two men died while abseiling at Mt York.

“The accident is said to have occurred when one man, who was descending, pulled the other man over the edge of the cliff after a supporting tie had become free. One of the dead men was inexperienced in abseiling while the other was instructing. A third member of the party who witnessed the accident was not hurt.

The police helicopter was called in to winch the bodies to a waiting car and they were then taken by road to Katoomba Hospital.”
