One of the most awful crimes in my book is the story of Sanjay Mehta, on page 264.  Sanjay was an Indian national who lived in Blacktown. On 5 May 2008 he threw the bodies of his wife and nine-year-old daughter off Echo Point, having previously killed them at home.  He then escaped to India and for some reason, I thought the story ended there. The Indian newspaper reports seemed somewhat sympathetic to him as somebody from that country and I thought perhaps he got away with it.  However, the decaying bodies were found 1 June 2008 by two bushwalkers below the lookout.   on 14 August 2009 he was sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment for the murder of his wife and life imprisonment for the murder of his daughter.

Today I found out from a prison officer at Lithgow Correctional Centre that he is in Lithgow Gaol. She said he expresses no remorse for his acts.
